Inv. 32-21-131 Spatula for a cosmetic kit A cut from the fragmented thinner end: magnification, 200x Etchant: Ammonium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide (Sn, <0.014%; As, 0.61%; Ni, 0.32%)
The microstructure consists of polyhedral grains that, in their fineness, twinning and distortion, are indicative of an annealing treatment, in this instance a hot-working that also led to inclusions becoming elongated and arranged in bands. If there was any prior working of this item, the microstructural information on that has now been completely erased.
Microhardness VHN: 120 ± 7 (n=5) Uniform; data scatter (with the VHN ranging 130 to 111) seems to be a genuine record of variation in grain size within the spatulas body.
