Inv. 31-52-261 Holdfast or handle A cut across the end of the narrow foot of the clip: magnification, 200x Etchant: Klemms III (Sn, <0.031%; As, 1.17%; Ni, 0.051%)
The microstructure consists of polyhedral grains that, in their twinning and slight distortion, are indicative of an annealing treatment after a moderate amount of cold-working. Globular-shaped and mottle-textured inclusions are dispersed relatively lightly throughout the interior (cf., the inclusion density in micrographs for the two sickles, 32-21-100 and 32-21-102).
Microhardness VHN: 108 ± 6 (n=5) Uniform; data scatter (with the VHN ranging 114 to 100) seems to be a genuine record of variation in grain size within the blades body.
