(Sn, 0.027%; As, 1.02%; Ni, 0.24%)
Compositional differences within the metal result in a duplex microstructure, the regions with a somewhat lower tin content being displayed as clusters of coarser grains (left micrograph). (This effect is a result of what is now called critical working.) The repeated cold-working and annealing that was applied to the blades edge is still evident in the smaller size and significant deformation of grains in that part of the artifact (right micrograph). The impact of this treatment was only partially erased by a subsequent final working of that edge, that working being responsible for a directional texture of banding that runs southwest-to-northeast across the microstructure shown here.
Microhardness VHN: 115 ± 9 (n=5)
Non-uniform, where the microhardness being somewhat elevated at each of the blades edge (see Figure below).
