Inv. 31-52-230 Chisel, square-sectioned A notch cut from one edge, 70 mm from the working end: magnification, 200x Etchant: Klemms III (Sn, 7.4%; As, 0.95%; Ni, 0.085%)
The microstructure consists of polyhedral grains that, in their twinning and lack of distortion, are indicative of annealing after at most a light cold-working. Inclusions are small and scattered throughout the metal without any particular orientation.
Microhardness VHN: 128 ± 3 (n=5) Very uniform; what microstructural evidence there might have been of deliberate working of this tools edges most likely is now lost to corrosion.
