The highly heterogeneous microstructure is indicative of the appreciable deformation that occurred when the metal was sequentially hot- and cold-worked. Nothing in that treatment, however, was sufficient either to entirely eliminate the grain banding due to inherent compositional segregation within the metal, or to establish one equiaxed grain structure.
Microhardness VHN: 132 ± 11 (n=5) Non uniform; VHN ranging from 147 close to the highly deformed blades edge to 117 near its center (see Figure below).
