Inv. 32-21-356 Dagger or knife A notch cut from the edge of the blade, 137 mm from the blades tip: magnification, 100x Etchant: Ammonium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide + alcoholic ferric chloride (Sn, <0.020%; As, 1.98%; Ni, 1.02%)
The microstructure consists of polyhedral grains that, in their twinning and slight distortion, are indicative of annealing after light cold-working. There is a moderately high density of inclusions which are of widely varying size and shape, perhaps reflecting many different non-metallic compositions among them.
Microhardness VHN: 120 ± 4 (n=5) Very uniform, despite the potential of some interference from the appreciable inclusion content within the blades body. What microstructural evidence there might have been of deliberate working of the blades edge most likely is now lost to corrosion.
